Materials Used for Garden Furniture

There are many popular types of material used for creating lovely garden and patio furniture.  Teak is very popular but there are several others that are also very popular.  Here are just a few of those types:

Wrought Iron Furniture: Elegant and sturdy wrought iron furniture is durable enough to last for generations. Your investment will be well protected and give you many returns. With cushions, wrought iron furniture is as comfortable as the best living room sofa.

However, wrought iron must be cleaned regularly to keep it from rusting. Also, every few years you will need to repaint it or brush on a clear finish if you want to keep it looking new. If you like the weathered look, you can skip the painting, as wrought iron ages gracefully and adds an elegant charm to the garden. Be aware that wrought iron gets very hot in the sun. If you do not have a shady place for your garden furniture, you might want to exclude wrought iron as an option.

Wicker Furniture: Wicker gives the impression of refinement and relaxation. It’s light and easy to move around to any spot where you need it. It’s also easy to take care of. If you have young children, however, you might want to exclude wicker because it’s easy to damage with rough treatment.

Wood Furniture: Natural and rustic-looking wood furniture will never go out of style. With a wide price range, styles vary from a solid, heavy wood to artistically arranged sticks and limbs. The more solid the wood, the more durable the furniture. Outdoor wood furniture should be treated regularly with wood oil and touched up every few years with a sealant or finish.

Whatever type of outdoor furniture you choose for decorating your garden, it must be able to withstand your climate and weather conditions. You might not want to have to move heavy furniture into the garage during the winter or rainy season, for example. Consider all your options before making a choice. After buying your new furniture, be sure to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on proper care and maintenance so you will have beautiful outdoor garden furniture for many years to come.
