Adding Elegance to Your Landscaping

Home landscaping requires a small investment of time and a big investment of creativity.

It doesn’t mean just making your yard look green by sticking a few plants around here and there and watering them once in a while. It means beautifying your environment.

Where do you begin? Here are some do-it-yourself tips. First, clear the area that you will be landscaping and start from scratch. You want a clear “canvass” to work with. Next, envision and sketch the general look that you want your garden to have. List the plants, trees, and shrubs that you want to plant. Make sure that among the plants you choose, there will be one plant that will bloom for each season of the year: winter, spring, summer, and fall. For example, perennial flowers bloom in May, but after that the plant will look ordinary. Having a plant that blooms each season will give your garden a year-around focal point even when the other variants are not in season.

Layer your planting bed as much as possible. At the back row farthest from your house, plant the variants that grow the tallest to serve as the base of your landscaping. Put the short plants in the middle and front rows. Apply this rule in every area of the garden where you want to plant, as it will give your landscaping a trimmed, orderly look.

You can vary the design of walls and fences. When choosing outdoor furniture for your garden, such as a table and chair set, put them where they can best be seen and enjoyed. Installing a waterfall will add an elegant touch and can be a main attraction in your landscaped garden. With a little hard work and a lot of creativity, you will have a landscaped lawn and garden that you built yourself to admire when you look out your window. It will be a place where you can relax and entertain guests, too. You'll be glad you took the time to learn more about home landscaping and made the effort to realize your dream.
